That is just a plain ol modular slick tube that you can screw in rail sections to where you want with backing plates as long as they correlate with those drilled mounting sockets for the screws. Just by doing a quick look, some of the Midwest Industries handguards are pretty much the same price as the UTG ones but they are 10x the quality so why not. like Midwest Industries, Yankee Hill Machine Co. If not then invest the money and buy something a couple steps up.Īnd Im not talking about a super high end Noveske or Knights Armament rail or anything like that.I mean any of the other lesser expensive, but industry vetted companies out there that make great strong products specifically for actual guns. If this is just a range toy/plinker it will probably be fine. If you are not to hard on your gun and banging it off of things (like the ground or the side of a barricade etc) you will probably be fine and I am sure you will probably get a few responses here saying "Well I have a UTG part and it works fine for me!" I have seen attached accessories such as mounts, wear down the rails sections or simply torque/break off sections from over tightening or simple use. Their aluminum rails are crappier aluminum. Their materials are not as high quality as other dedicated manufactures making parts for real guns. That is why you can find so many "Hobby" (as opposed to gun part stores) stores selling their stuff. (and people buy them because they are cheap). Some KeyMod rails (like the BCM one) also give you more options for exact placement of your accessories including the 1, 5, 7, and 11 o clock positions as well as your traditional 12, 3, 6, and 9 positions.Īs for UTG, they are an airsoft gun company that tries to cross sell their products over to real guns. Mount directly attached to outside of hand guard with no annoying backing plate. Meaning with the old system like the one you posted if you wanted to attach a light at the end of your handguard it would be "light screwed into mount, mount attached to picatinny rail piece, which was screwed into one of the slots on the handguard with an annoying backing plate. KeyMod systems allow for a much greater placement of your sections and while they do make rail sections most of the attachments are dedicated KeyMod mounts. It's modular yes, but is not a KeyMod system.
What you guys and gals think?Ĭlick to expand. That is just a plain ol modular slick tube that you can screw in rail sections to where you want with backing plates as long as they correlate with those drilled mounting sockets for the screws. I thought those were pretty decent prices though. Of course these prices are from their website, Im sure if I shop around I can find them a little cheaper. They also have a 15" version of this one for $150. it has a single rail down the top and all the holes around it where you can mount the individual rail sections to fit your needs. This one is similar to if not the same as what they call the Key Mod. The other one I am looking at is a 13" Rifle Length Free Float Single Rail Super Slim, for $130. One is a 13" Rifle Length Free Float Quad Rail, for $115. I have found two that I like the looks of (on the web that is), but I dont know anything about them. Does anyone have any first hand experience or know anyone who has first hand experience with UTG Rails and Handguards? I guess my next purchase will be the Handguard.
